My journey with photography began back in high school, when my world revolved mostly around sports and girls—probably in that order. One day, a friend borrowed his uncle’s camera to take pictures of us riding BMX bikes. Naturally, I had to have one, too. Not long after, I bought my first camera: a Canon AE-1 Program with a 70-210mm zoom lens. From that moment on, I was hooked—photographing everything I could.
The turning point came when I noticed a newspaper photographer with a massive lens covering our soccer games. That was it—I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I owe a lot to my mom for her honesty. She gently pointed out that I probably wasn’t going to make it as a professional soccer player, and suggested I look into photography programs in college. At the time, I wasn’t much of a student, and the idea that I could go to college to study photography honestly blew my mind. But I did—and it changed everything.
Since then, my photographic journey has taken me all over the world. I’ve had the privilege of covering major sporting events, discovering new cultures, and telling meaningful stories through images. I’ve truly been living the dream—doing what I love, creating a fulfilling life for myself and my wife, Lisa.
Lisa and I met while working the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, for USA Today. She’s a writer and editor, and together we make a pretty great creative team. Whether it’s telling stories from our own community, collaborating on content, or supporting small businesses through our work, we love sharing what we do.
When we’re not working, you’ll find us traveling, teaching, skiing, hiking with our dogs, cooking, enjoying live music, entertaining friends—or just having fun. That joy and curiosity are at the heart of everything we do—and it’s what I bring to every workshop, project, and photo I take.
